Uruguay Ducks
Los Gauchos is the outfitter. Since 2003, Los Gauchos Outfitters has been duck hunting in Uruguay and providing duck hunting trips in the northeast part of Uruguay. Bird hunters return each year to hunt ducks in Uruguay with Los Gauchos Outfitters, and that provides the energy to enhance and improve the Uruguay duck hunting with what the outfitter can control. Based near the town of Chuy, the Fortin Lodge offers Uruguay duck hunting May through August. This duck hunting trip can also include Perdiz hunting, an Upland hunt that uses the bird dogs in the fields of Uruguay. As with real estate, location matters. The location is keen to the quality of the duck hunting in Uruguay and the northeast part of the country offers the rice fields and farms and water sources that bring in the ducks and offer the environment and habitiat that the Uruguay ducks are attracted to. Los Gauchos has another lodge near the Rio Branco area which borders Brazil and Urugauy, the water and the hundreds of acres of rice is enormous and the hunting pressure is light - Los Gauchos clients only. We keep the hunting groups 8 per week (2 per blind) and use baiting and scouting daily to maintain the volumes and high quality duck hunting in Uruguay.

The species of ducks in Uruguay are unique and one will shoot or see at least five different teal species, each more colorful than the other, plus the regal and popular rosy-billed pouchard, a species of widgeon. There are a few other speicies that are not as common, but keep at attention and your guide will point out the other speicies of ducks that do come into to the decoys at various points in the season.
None of the Uruguay ducks are native to North America, so duck hunting in Uruguay is a grand experience proving the 8 hour flight to Uruguay is worth it! Limits are liberal, Los Gauchos does issue 3 boxes of shells and hunters have at it for the morning and afternoon duck hunts. We issue the shell limit to offer high quality, consistent duck hunts throughout the season.
Twelve gauge guns are best for the duck hunting in Uruguay and Los Gauchos provides the 12-gauge shotguns at no extra charge. (It is part of the daily rate for your Uruguay duck hunt). With years of experience duck hunting in South America, we recommend tighter chokes for shooting the Uruguay ducks. Most shots are within 35 yards; however, you can shoot at the ducks farther if you want and we have experienced duck hunters as well as young waterfowl hunters that learn to duck hunt in Uruguay. Uruguay makes for a perfect first duck hunt or your 100th duck hunt.

Uruguay Duck Hunting Trips:
Some good tips when planning a Uruguay duck hunting trip
1. Flights - fly into Montevideo, Uruguay. The airport code is MVD and American Airlines provides direct service from Miami to Montevideo. The flights are overnight flights departing at 11 PM in the evening. The time difference is only 1 hour ahead of EST.
2. Fortin Lodge offers duck hunting and duck-Perdiz hunting. The Rio Branco Lodge is ducks all day.
3. A valid passport is the only requirement for travel to Uruguay. If you do not hold a US passport, check with your local embassy about the requirements for travel to Uruguay.
4. Packing is easy. Waders are NOT required. Recommended but not required. Shotguns not required. Los Gauchos has the top hunting equipment and it is provided at no extra charge for our clients.
5. A common question and the bad news - DUCKS can NOT be taken out of Uruguay. Bring your camera and just keep your schedule open each Uruguay duck hunting season. Uruguay ducks are not allowed to be taken out of the country for mounting.
6. Uruguay duck hunting season is May 1st to September 15th. Most duck hunts are 4 days in length. However, Los Gauchos will work with your schedule and duck hunting desires.
